In the face of increasing extreme weather events, cities are devising and re-purposing spaces to protect their most vulnerable residents. A trending adaptive strategy is to transform existing indoor and outdoor spaces (such as parks, libraries, and schools) into so-called “climate shelters”, or public spaces that provide thermal comfort during periods of extreme temperatures.
